As the social software market has emerged as a major force, so to has the number of smaller vendors - there are so many that it is really hard to keep up with and this report focused on the vendors that have hit the ~$5M+ mark (which still makes them very small player). It's a bit hard to judge because most of them are private companies but they have demonstrated a market presence.

I did mention Ning in the appendix but they also hold a funny position in the market. Definitely not enterprise class (no single sign-on, integrations, data portability, etc) but you can create a semi-branded community. A major issue for many companies considering Ning is it's semi-unified authentication and limited configuration. Having said that it is a great platform, easy to configure, low cost, and quick to launch.

Interesting, not much mention of Ning. No mention of SocialGO or Webjam - both of which offer private social networking facilities.

The space is worth watching, especially as the companies start to add more unique features.
