>I’ll never see Facebook as the destination to make purchasing decisions

Well, I don't see my neighbor's driveway as a destination to make purchasing decisions either, but when he's out there washing his car, I go out there and chat him up, and in the process, I mention that I'm in the market for a new car as well, etc. So I don't think social networks necessarily have to define themselves as e-commerce destinations. But that doesn't mean insinuating themselves into e-commerce will necessarly be easy.

Your example of buying a TV is interesting. I think you could argue your success rate on Twitter is higher as the crowd on Twitter is more tech-oriented. Frankly, if I were to pose the question "Which car should I buy" on Twitter and Facebook I think I'd get just as much opinion on either service.

But, that aside, I think this still ignores the most important issue: I log in to social networks to buy things. Until they shift the paradigm in our minds and usage, then I'll never see Facebook as the destination to make purchasing decisions. We go to Google and browse consumer reviews because that's what they're there for, right?
