I was somewhat pleased today to see that I’m not the only one concerned about the hole Cisco might have dug for itself with its insistence on being involved in every aspect of that data center. Dan Kusnetzky of The 451 Group expressed his concern, as did Jon Olstik at NetworkWorld. It’s not that Cisco can’t succeed, it’s just that it has given Dell, IBM and HP every incentive to make sure it doesn’t succeed. And on a completely unrelated note, I was happy to see Univa UD’s Reliance product win an award for virtualization automation. The company has shed some of its grid roots by evolving its expertise into a broadly applicable product.
