Facebook Remained Social Media’s Chief in Q3

Summary:

Social media and real-time technologies — what we call NewNet — produced mostly consumer-oriented activity in the U.S. during the third quarter of 2010. Advertisers opened their pocketbooks again, and Facebook’s sophisticated strategies led Twitter, Apple, Google and the rest of the pack. Location-based services received attention this quarter, thanks largely to Facebook Places. Social gaming, meanwhile, reached critical mass in the U.S. and three social stalwarts — Digg, Twitter and Foursquare — did site re-launches with varying degrees of success. Companies mentioned in this report include Facebook, Twitter, Apple, Google, Microsoft, AOL and Groupon. To read the full list of companies and the full report, sign up for a free trial.
