The Chrome OS backlash is the dominant topic of discussion today. Om thinks Google should focus on corporate markets, where they appreciate security, manageability, and thin clients. There’s an interesting discussion under my teaser piece (longer version here) at GigaOM – some folks make good cases for emerging markets. The “I spend all my PC time online” argument is less compelling, unless OEMs can deliver truly “disposable” machines. Chrome OS, through its developers, may offer a good proof of concept for the flexibility and power of HTML5 apps, but so would a browser running on Android, or any established desktop OS, for that matter.
