IBM is understandably concerned, considering their dominance in the US government sector, and the fact that AWS is stepping on their toes. While AWS provides several different database options, RDS seems to be a popular choice, as enterprises relocate database operations to the cloud. Now that it’s released, including more commitments from AWS, it should be much more attractive to enterprise IT. The advice is simple. Prepare for the continued growth, including the shift in some IT resources to the public cloud. Those of you who sell technology need to understand what will change, and how to take advantage of the change, or even minimize the damage.
