Luxury EV manufacturer Karma is attempting to renegotiate the terms of its DOE loan guarantee. The cynic in me wonders if it wants to restructure the seniority of its creditors but after the Solyndra scandal that’s probably impossible. Rather, the company has certain milestones it has to hit in order to draw down its loan and as this exhausting timeline from Katie Fehrenbacher points out, there’s not much of a deadline that the company hasn’t missed. Could Fisker be another Solyndra? Quite possibly, but I suspect the forces that be will do everything they can to make sure Fisker doesn’t go under before the November election. If you think Obama got hammered over Solyndra, imagine the storyline that would emerge about a bankrupt automaker and DOE loan recipient based in Finland making a small production 100K plus electric vehicle for the rich. Yeah, suddenly Solyndra doesn’t seem that bad.
