SecurityWeek is reporting that Apple has dropped Bitdefender’s “Clueful” app, which helps gives users a glimpse of how their apps may be betraying their privacy. Clueful provided information about apps that had access to address books and location, and those that track usage on the mobile web. Bitdefender is reportedly under DNA here, so it can’t discuss why the app was dropped, and Apple is as tight-lipped as ever. But users are becoming increasingly aware of how app developers and advertisers are often snooping via the handset, and Beltway types are already pressing to ramp up legislation and regulation. Apple needs to be very careful not to appear like it’s eager to sell its users down the river.
