Color redux?

I’ll try to resist making any business model version x gags, and point out that Color has a potentially critical partner in Verizon. Color says it will be getting distribution and promotion from Verizon for its instant 30-second video-sharing mobile app, which is getting a video quality boost and adding audio. Color’s app gives great demo on an LTE phone, and that’s what Verizon gets from the exclusive. Color founder Bill Nguyen is a charming pitchman, with big visions. He wants to write his app directly to handset hardware (even though some encoding is done in the cloud) and thinks videos could replace photos on Facebook. That’s an awful lot of storage – even for Facebook – and hardware encoding could limit iPhone support. And whatever happened to the things I originally thought made Color more than just another photo-sharing app – e.g., implicit ad hoc networks and big data analysis?
