The tech blogs are abuzz over news that the iPhone 5 won’t allow owners to use both voice and data simultaneously on Sprint or Verizon Wireless, although AT&T users will enjoy that functionality. That’s not really news, of course, because neither Sprint’s nor Verizon’s network have ever supported simultaneous voice and data. (Brian X. Chen of the New York Times’ Bits explains why here.) AT&T has long marketed that functionality as a key differentiator, actually. But while techies place a priority on it, I’m not sure simultaneous voice and data really matters to most users. So I don’t believe this gives AT&T any real edge with the iPhone 5.
