Apple’s acquisition of Chomp might be aimed at addressing more than Apps Store search. It’s hard to imagine Apple buying a whole company to fix an indexing issue. Driven by the iPod, iTunes and its music store have become the dominant player in digital music but let’s face it – iTunes is basically a spreadsheet that plays music. And Ping didn’t turn out to be the future of social commerce. (Music stores and services aren’t easy. Ask Google.)
