One of several companies that build stores on Facebook for retailers and manufacturers, 8thBridge has put together some solid social commerce analysis, based on a consumer survey and a lot of feature/function tracking. I’m still a little bearish on how much actual transacting will go on within Facebook walls, but 8thBridge looks at marketing as well as merchandising. It creates a “Social Commerce IQ” that it uses to rate some big retailers. GameStop, Victoria’s Secret, and Walmart came out on top overall. You can quibble about the formula behind the ratings, but it’s pretty sensible and definitely thought-provoking. And the rankings are also shown on a more granular level than the basic index. I might also debate whether a social commerce “score” should neglect daily deals and recommendations and reviews, but now I’m just nit-picking. Give the report a look and see what you think.
