Back in 2007 when I reviewed the new Vudu box for NewTeeVee, I was a big fan of what the company had managed to do. With a slick UI, innovative remote control and pretty decent selection of movies, the Vudu movie box was a welcome addition to the just-igniting world of OTT delivery to the TV. Fast forward two years later, and things have changed. Since then we’ve seen Netflix jump bigtime into the streaming market with its Watch Instantly service, we’ve seen integration of streaming services on the Xbox 360 and download capabilities on the TiVo and the Playstation 3. What does it all mean? Sadly, as Chris notes here, Vudu’s time has seemingly past, and now they’re just another service solution provider for web-connected TVs.
