Today in Green IT

From my friends at Greentech Media comes a slew of news this week from the world of solar PV balance of systems (BoS) equipment — the inverters and other power electronics that turn solar panel output into grid-usable power, and keep it as efficient as possible. On Monday, SolarEdge landed a $25 million series C round for solar panel optimization. On Tuesday, Azuray Technology emerged from stealth with news that it would provide its maximum power point tracking DC-to-DC converter electronics to Chinese solar panel junction box manufacturer Renhe Photovoltaic Technologies, as well as Chinese solar panel giant Suntech. Soon after, National Semiconductor announced plans to integrate its SolarMagic PV panel optimization chipset into Suntech “smart” solar panels. With solar panels reaching close to maximum theoretical efficiencies, could these BoS efforts be the next solar battlefield?
