Today in Infrastructure

We found out today that Microsoft Windows Azure officially will support Ruby on Rails, which raises questions about how smaller, Ruby-only platforms like Heroku and Engine Yard will be affected. Because they were created with Ruby in mind, those two services likely will remain the staples of hardcore Ruby developers, but firms looking to build Ruby apps on the same platform they’re building other apps might very well head to Azure. Either way, this news is further proof that Azure has disruptive potential in an already disruptive field. Maybe it will help allay the concerns holding back cloud adoption, but I’m not holding my breath.
