The news that Amazon is working on an agreement with federal systems integrator Apptis is no surprise to those who have been following the government’s cloud plans since the beginning. Apptis launched its FedCloud around this time last year, and it already had received a positive response from Amazon about making EC2 government-ready. Now, it seems, the deal is done. I wonder, however, if Amazon will be content working this Apptis, or if also is pursuing a partnership to provide computing services for Apps.gov. It is unclear how the two offerings compare with each other, but something tells me Amazon does not want Google reaping all the rewards from the government’s official cloud program.
