Today in NewNet

It’s a slow news day in for the NewNet industry, so I’ll offer up a sneak peak at some social commerce analysis I’m working on. I just got off the phone with Christian Taylor, the founder of Payvment, a startup that allows companies and artists to build shopping into their Facebook Pages. Initially, the only social thing about Payvment stores was that they existed within a social network, but earlier this year, Payvment integrated Like buttons into discounts, and Taylor has ideas about recommendations based on social graph data. Digital goods are on its radar. Payvment’s shopping cart is portable across its network of  storefronts, and users can search across stores. The service is free for merchants – for now, anyway – so monetization may come from paid promotions and ads on the store search engine.
