I’m pretty sure we all know what Twitter’s role in the tech industry is. Mathew Ingram notes that it’s easy to see the company’s evolution from info utility to media company. And most media companies make at least some of the money off advertising. I’m not blown away by this Twitter promotion on Hootsuite – a $100 ad purchase voucher for HootSuite premium subscribers – but what the heck, both are aimed at small business. Working directly with broadcast networks sounds more promising. Twitter hasn’t lost its “utility” cred, as it cobbles together some election coverage tools. But Twitter is not the only social media player diving into political coverage, as Paul Sweeting details.
