Why Cloud Computing will define the Value of IT Shops in 2013

IT keeps plenty busy running the business of IT. Amongst other duties, they support the core production systems, deal with application backlogs, and install new systems to meet the changing needs of the business.
Cloud computing, in many instances, is not as welcome as one might think. To many in IT, it’s another new concept they must deal with, and, given limited resources and time, it’s tough to fit it in to the schedule.
Years ago, many IT shops got into the habit of just saying “No” to anything new. That carries forward to this day.
As cloud computing begins to define its value, it will also define the value of IT. While some IT shops will continue to push back on this technology, typically without even looking under its hood, others will figure out its value and create a plan around the use of this technology.
The metric is simple. Those who explore the newer idea of cloud computing are typically IT shops that are more innovative and efficient. Those who do not explore the value of the cloud probably need some new processes in place, or different leadership, or, they could be underfunded.
