hiv K. Bakhshi, Ph.D., is founder and CEO of Mobile Perspectives, a research and consulting firm focused on the mobile and wireless communications industry.
Dr. Bakhshi is a recognized expert in mobile technology and markets. Beyond research and consulting, he sees his work as evangelizing the possibilities of mobile technologies, especially with respect to digital and financial inclusion.
Earlier, Dr. Bakhshi was director of worldwide mobility research at IDC, a global research and advisory firm, where he most recently headed the company’s worldwide mobile device practice for several years. Before assuming that role, he had founded and led IDC’s worldwide wireless and mobile infrastructure practice in 2001.
During that time, he led various market studies – including multi-client studies — and strategy engagements for many of the leading players in the mobile industry, including leading mobile operators, infrastructure and device vendors, and technology providers.
A frequent speaker at industry and academic conferences, he has presented on a broad range of mobility related topics, including FMC, IMS, mobile devices and services, and, the structural transformation of the mobile industry. He is a sought-after keynote speaker at internal company events and meetings, as well as at various industry forums.
A student of the mobile industry for more than 20 years, both as an academic and an industry analyst, Dr. Bakhshi has been widely quoted in the US and global mainstream media and industry publications and is frequently cited in a wide array of online publications and blogs. He has also appeared on various TV networks in the US and India. His industry participation includes. Among other things, judging innovation awards for the GSM Association’s annual flagship conference in Barcelona.
Shiv started his career as a journalist in India. Later, as an academic, he taught international telecom policy and strategy (and directed graduate & doctoral research) at University of Kentucky.
Dr. Bakhshi has a bachelor’s in Economics from Calcutta University. He earned his master’s as well as his doctorate in Communication/Telecommunication from The Ohio State University.
